Project description
Ministry of Water Resources (through its Center for Implementation of Foreign Investment Projects in the Water Sector) conveyed the following description in a letter sent in the spring of 2022: i) Reconstruct the 96.6 km long Suenli main canal (including narrowing and concreting its banks); ii) Upgrade four pumping stations and introduce a SCADA-type remote control system iii) Rebuild control stations; iv) Reconstruct and/or maintain bridges over the canal; v) Rehabilitate the roads along the canal; vi) Conduct laser leveling of 25,000 hectares of irrigated land. However, beyond this work concentrated on the Suenli Canal, AFD and the EIB are stressing to the Ministry of Water Resources the importance of a holistic approach "from the river to the fields" to cover the entire irrigation network and thus carry out coherent actions with long-term effects for the balanced development of this territory.
