Project description

The Intergovernmental Platform for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) provides assessments on the global status of biodiversity and presents options for its conservation and sustainable use. The project strengthened the uptake of IPBES findings into decisions in environmental and conservation policy in the partner countries.

Expected Results

Project activities led to an increase of recognition of IPBES and created a sound basis for well-informed participation of national and regional stakeholders in IPBES processes. In national and regional workshops in the EECCA region, the project developed capacity building materials in English and Russian, trained trainers and National Focal Points, and helped preparing participants for IPBES plenary meetings. Project participants included relevant ministries, science and other stakeholders. The project partners are now in a good position to participate in IPBES-processes in a competent manner and to make use of IPBES findings. Thus, the project strengthened administrations' and civil society organisations' capacities and fostered international cooperation for the conservation of biodiversity.
